Accessibility
Large type, strong contrast and pages that work with a keyboard and a screen reader.
Stitch Manual aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. Many readers will be at the sewing table with a machine in front of them, so body text starts at 19 pixels, links and buttons are at least 44 pixels tall, and text color contrast meets or exceeds the AA ratios against the paper-colored background.
What we do
- Semantic headings, lists and tables, so screen readers can move by section and step.
- A visible focus outline on every link, button and field, and a skip link to the main content.
- Every line drawing has a text description, and every step is written out in full, so nothing depends on seeing a diagram.
- Color is never the only way information is shown.
- Pages reflow to a single column on phones without sideways scrolling, and you can zoom text to 200 percent.
- Animations are not used.
Known limitations
- The schematic thread path drawings are simplified and are not a substitute for the threading diagram printed on your machine; the written steps beside them are the complete instructions.
- Links to manufacturer manuals often open PDF files that we do not control and that may not be accessible.
